Februrary Feature Friday

Written by the Performance Press Team

If you run a business, or even work for a business, you've likely used a commercial printer. In Brandon South Dakota, we have come to know Performance Press Inc as the commercial printer serving the local and surrounding communities. They have been helping companies, agencies, individuals and nonprofits bring their print ideas to life for the past 14 years. First opening their doors in 2006 downtown Brandon, they have since relocated to Redwood Boulevard, and the shop operates Monday through Friday, with five full time employees.
Since opening in Brandon, Tim Mallatt and business partner Steve Carlson say Performance Press Inc has seen over 24,000 jobs. Tim started in the printing industry in 1982 at a quick print & copy shop in downtown Sioux Falls. After 8 years in the industry, he took a break from the printing business to explore other opportunities. In 1998 he returned to printing. Tim enjoys all aspects of the business, especially working with the customers and seeing their satisfaction on a project well done. Steve began his printing career 46 years ago and has loved it from the beginning, his experience is vast in any aspect of the business. He likes the constant variety, and after 46 years continues to learn something new every day. He enjoys working with his employees and the business’s customers.
Along with the copious amounts of experience between the two owners, the company commends Angie Flanigan, whom celebrated 10 years with the company this past year. Angie is a Copy & Print Specialist, however her job includes a little bit of everything, such as designing, quoting jobs, answering the phone and greeting walk - in customers. The most satisfying part of the printing business to her is seeing something Performance Press has done displayed in the community, used at an event, or even delivered to our Brandon mailboxes. The bosses, as well as co-workers make for a great work environment and Angie is thankful for the relationships that have developed. She also includes a number of special customers she has met over the years as friends and looks forward to their emails and visits in person at the shop as they drop off and pick up projects. Being a part of the Performance Press team has made her feel more in touch with the Brandon Community.
A team member with a semi-new face to Brandon is in her fourth year with Performance Press, most know her as Iesley, a Graphic Designer. Upon graduating Southeast Tech in 2015 with a degree in Media Design, she brings knowledge from past experience in small format, large format, and marketing with her. Her day consists of handling the online and paper marketing for the company, as well as, designing and printing projects. Although she always likes working on any kind of design project, the most memorable are the Inside Brandon magazine and sports programs for Senior Night at the Brandon Valley High School. Iesley enjoys working with the team and meeting the many people that come into the shop. She believes there is always something to learn and loves being able to bring people's ideas to life.

The team agrees it would not be complete without offset printing specialist, David Boscaljon. The newest face brings over 25 years of experience in the printing industry with him. He enjoys the challenges of the printing world, seeing the end product, and being a part of the Performance Press team. When asked, he says he "has many favorite projects and enjoys printing all of them." David is excellent at attention to detail, and co-owner, Tim, backed this up commenting, "every time I see David printing he is "tweeking' the color on the press until it is near perfection." The craft of offset printing is not an easy thing to do, it's definitely not an exact science, but he does his best to nail it every time. When David's not firing up the press, he's helping in bindery or surprising everyone with donuts!
Together the staff agrees the community feeling and engagement from other local businesses makes being apart of the Brandon community special. Upon talking with Tim, he mentioned how he feels Brandon is "...an especially great place to run a business, because the local community is so strong in the beliefs to shop local, when the community supports us, we are able to give back to support them." In other words the team appreciates the community embracing them, providing them with opportunities to "embrace back".
In order to better serve the community, Performance Press is always willing to try cool and exciting projects. They offer many services, including, but not limited to; offset and digital printing, this includes your brochures, business cards, and letterheads; to large format such as banners, decals, and signs. Recently they have added a fifth color station on one of their digital printers, giving them the ability to print white toner. The staff explains this is an additional option to add some elegance to projects, such as, wedding invites. It can also be used to really help the other colors on white paper really bounce off the page. Feel free to call or stop by if you are in need of printing, even if you are in need of a service they don't necessarily offer, they have the experience needed to point you in the right direction. They encourage you to check out the latest projects on their website www.performancepressinc.com or like them on Facebook!
