This full-time Dispatcher position is a critical part of our team that must communicate effectively when dispatching crews, creating service orders, receiving and routing phone calls, and documenting outages. Work hours are a 5-6 week rotation with a combination of 6AM-6PM day shifts, 6PM-6AM overnight shifts, 9AM-5PM or 11AM-7PM day shifts and up to 16 days off.

This position has the option to report to the Colman or the Brandon Service Center once fully trained.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Dispatcher is a critical part of our team that uses their effective and efficient communication skills to dispatch crews, create service orders, receive and route phone calls, and document outages.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required.  Specialized training in computer applications including database, spreadsheet and word processing required. Graduation from a technical school or university in communications, business administration or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:  One year experience in customer service, emergency call center or utility operation required; two years dispatching for a rural electric distribution system helpful.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:  Ability to read and interpret a map required.  Use of personal computer applications including database, spreadsheet and word processing software required. Knowledge of electrical distribution system operations, system configuration and layout, telephone communication and two-way radio communications procedures preferred. Knowledge of specialized utility programs such as NISC, outage management systems, customer information and service order system, mapping and PRISM Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition helpful.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS:   Must be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time and remain focused under pressure situations. Attention to detail, organization skills and good oral and written communications required. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Inside position with the usual office conditions.  Normally have regular hours of work with irregular volume of activity.  Some overtime may be required.

WORK HOURS:   A full-time rotating work week including a variety of 8 - 12-hour days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holiday shifts with possible extended shifts during inclement weather conditions to provide coverage on a 24-hour basis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Light work requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly.  Lifting and carrying of 10 to 50 pounds occasionally. Job requires optional sitting or standing during shifts. Primarily inside work at a desk. Requires repetitive motions with hand and fingers such as dialing and keyboarding. Must be able to use office equipment such as a copier, computer and printer. Must be able to communicate to individuals and small groups. Minimal exposure to fumes, odors, dust and dirt.  Must be able to read, write and do arithmetic. Requires analyzing data and reports, coordinating people and resources, and developing plans. Must be able to present information to others and work under stress.
