K-5 Manager

The K-5 Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and quality assurance of multiple school-based out-of-school time programs serving grades K-5. In collaboration with and under the direction of the Director, the Manager ensures each site meets programming, safety, staffing, and enrollment goals in accordance with licensing and organizational standards. This role includes a strong emphasis on staff management and development, regulatory compliance (DSS and BGCA), community and stakeholder engagement, and continuous quality improvement.   

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor program quality, compliance, and safety; provide on-site coaching and feedback. 
  • Ensure program delivery aligns with the mission, curriculum, and expectations of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in collaboration with the Programming Department.  
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and decision making in problems related to employees, parents, outside providers and the youth we serve.  
  • Evaluate site performance and support continuous improvement through formal and informal assessments. 
  • Interview and select applicants, oversee onboarding and scheduling, and manage staff performance through coaching, evaluations, and corrective actions. 
  • Lead team meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions to ensure consistent program quality and staff engagement. 
  • Promote positive staff culture through recognition, support, and ongoing communication. 
  • Ensure all sites meet licensing standards, safety protocols, and organizational policies; participate in audits, inspections, and corrective action planning. 
  • Collaborate with HR to verify staff certifications and training compliance. 
  • Monitor enrollment and attendance goals; implement strategies to maintain strong participation and balanced staffing ratios and assist with coverage as needed. 
  • Serve as the primary contact for families and school partners, fostering strong relationships and effective communication. 
  • Represent the organization in community and cross-departmental initiatives that strengthen partnerships and visibility. 
  • Collect and analyze data on attendance, staffing, and program outcomes; prepare reports for leadership and other stakeholders. 
  • Support budget planning, grant reporting, and alignment with strategic and curriculum goals. 
  • Identify trends, challenges, and opportunities, recommending solutions to enhance program operations. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the K–5 Director. 

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • An associate degree or higher in childcare, education, or a related field is required. Additional experience or other qualifications may be substituted if the degree is in an unrelated field.  
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working with youth and/or managing youth programs is preferred.  
  • Experience with K-5 is highly desirable.  
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license with four years of driving history.  

Skills and Knowledge Requirements: 

  • Strong understanding of youth development theories and practices as well as youth program development, implementation and evaluations.  
  • Working understanding of relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations that impact K-5 programming. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal communication, and presentation skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and engage employees to accomplish organizational objectives. 
  • Analytical problem solving and decision-making skills, and the ability to fulfill these functions under pressure in the event of an emergency.   

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: 

  • Constant hearing, hand-eye coordination, mind-eye coordination. 
  • Intermittent speaking, standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, reaching, and squatting. 
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases. 
  • Frequent lifting of objects under 20 pounds, and occasional lifting of items up to 75 pounds. 
  • Indoor and outdoor work with exposure to extreme temperatures in summer and winter.
